This is the third year for the One Book, One Burg: Louisburg Reads program to be in February. We've tried to choose books that will engage a variety of readers so everyone will be able to offer a unique perspective. That means we've read a mixture of non-fiction and fiction, and adult and young adult titles. We even added some classics.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

The book selection committee decided on The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, for 2025, a story that ties together many themes: morality and ethics; racism, classism, sexism; technology and globalization; human suffering; scientific progress versus personal privacy; and immortality. We are giving away copies of the full text and copies of the Young Adult adaptation.

Visit the library to pick up your complimentary copy of the book - please limit one per family so more people have the chance to participate.Throughout the month of February our goal is for each of you to actively  think about how we learn from stories of war and what we can do to provide grace to those who come back from unimaginable circumstances in the name of freedom. If you know a Veteran, maybe he or she will share his or her own story with you. Please take the time to listen and engage.

After reading Unbroken, please bring your own insight to the luncheon and Intergenerational Book Discussion. We will host a guided discussion with students and meet them where they are - at Louisburg High School. We invite members of the Library District to join us in an engaging discussion of the YA Adaptation. You read the book and join us and we'll provide the lunch! Please register for this event at Louisburg Library and ask for the YA Adaptation of the book, specifically.
