ALA Book, Print, and Media Awards A complete list of the awards given by the American Library Association and associated divisions. The book and media awards are announced each year at ALA’s Midwinter Meeting in January.
Lambda Literary Awards (Lammys) "Created over 30 years ago to recognize the crucial role LGBTQ writers play in shaping the world, the Lammys celebrate the very best in LGBTQ literature."
Man Booker Prizes The prizes "aims to promote the finest in fiction by rewarding the best novel of the year written by a citizen of the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth or the Republic of Ireland." Includes nominees and winners of International Booker Prize. The winner is announced in October.
National Book Awards "The National Book Award is an American literary prize administered by the National Book Foundation." The four award categories include: Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Young People's Literature. Winners are announced in November.
National Book Critics Circle Awards Awarded "annually to honor outstanding writing ... awards are open to any book published in the United States in English (including translations)." Awards include fiction, nonfiction, biography, autobiography, criticism, and poetry. Awards for the books published in the previous year are announced in March.
Nobel Prize in Literature Prize awarded to "the person who shall have produced in the field of literature the most outstanding work in an ideal direction." Given for lifetime achievement in literature. Award winners are announced in October.
PEN/Faulkner Awards The PEN/Faulkner Foundation celebrates literature by giving out three major literary awards: the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction, the PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story, and the PEN/Faulkner Literary Champion. The awards are given in May.
Poetry Society of America Annual Awards Several awards offered annually to emerging and established poets. Winning poems are often included on the site. Winners are announced in April.
Pulitzer Prizes Awards for American achievements in letters and music. Awards include categories for journalism, letters (fiction, drama, nonfiction, etc.), and music. Winners are usually announced in May.
Women's Prize for Fiction (Orange Prize) Awarded to "any full length novel, written in English by a woman of any nationality, provided that the novel is published for the first time in print form the United Kingdom." The winner is announced in June.
